The 2023 Asheville Shellac Bash Information and Schedule
We are getting excited about throwing this party again at long last. Many thanks to all the folks who have helped us out financially already. We are doing good and hope to be able to keep the event in the black going forward. As you may have heard, our costs have risen quite a bit this year. However, we are still striving to keep the event as affordable as possible, especially as so many travel to attend.
There is no special lodging situation set up in town, but many folks will, I’m sure, continue to stay at The Mountaineer Inn. https://www.themountaineerinn.com/ Otherwise, poor old Asheville has become overrun with hotels, so take your pick. Saturday night’s event is right downtown, so for those who would find a (pricey) room nearby, they could possibly walk to the venue that evening.
As usual, all of these events will have a turntable set up through the house sound system, so bring a few 78s to spin if you like.
Friday Night, April 28th: The Outpost (7-12 Midnight) This will be a little different than our regular evening shows, as it’s a nice spot down by the river with a bar. Indoor space is limited. But, there are nice outdoor pavilions and as well as a stage. We are looking forward to a casual mix and mingle evening party rather than a “Show” this night. Plenty of parking, and I think there will also be food or a food truck, but I’m not sure yet. 521 Amboy Rd, Asheville, NC 28806 $10 Suggested Donation
Saturday Afternoon, April 29th: The Grey Eagle (11 am-4 pm) 78 record/ephemera vendors inside, and probably some pickin’ on the patio. If you would like to reserve a table ($40) please write me. Parking in the lot and on the street. Taqueria/bar open. 185 Clingman Ave, Asheville, NC 28801 $5 Suggested Donation
Saturday Evening, April 29th: Circa 29 (7-12Midnight) 78RPM Listening Party, in the basement of the historic Art Deco S&W Cafeteria, one of Asheville’s most gorgeous buildings. This is in the heart of downtown, so no parking to speak of other than parking garages. If you can Uber/Lift, that might be a good option. Downtown AVL is a real circus these days. Awesome Art Deco food court upstairs until 9 pm. The private bar for us downstairs. 56 Patton Ave, Asheville, NC 28801 $30 Suggested Donation
Sunday Evening, April 30th: Land Of The Sky Broadcast WPVM (6-9:30 pm) For what stragglers remain, we’ll do our 78rpm radio show “straight off the shellac and into the ether.” For anyone who may want to tune in, air time is 7-9 pm on WPVM 103.7FM in Asheville and streaming at wpvmfm.org. Folks who want to join us in the studio, be sure to be there early so we can let you in the building. 34 Wall St. # 407 Asheville, NC 28801
All for now, we look forward to seeing many new and old faces for ASB IV!
As Ever,
The MGMT.
