Erin Litteken is an American author of Ukrainian heritage. She describes her new book, The Memory Keeper of Kyiv, published in May this year. It is a work of historical fiction about the Soviet forced famine or Holodomor in the 1930’s, which took 4 million Ukrainian lives by starvation. It is inspired by Litteken’s family history under Stalinist rule. She also discusses current efforts to support Ukrainians during the war.
Sharon Scott, manager of Pacifica affiliate ArtFM, WXOX in Louisville, KY, describes how her station has embraced support for Ukraine and one particular show, Dobryi Den, hosted by 2 Ukrainians living in Louisville.
A fragment of Dobryi Den is played, including music and a message to Americans from a Ukrainian living in a suburb of Kyiv. Dobryi Den is hosted by Megan and Andriy Sherehiy and showcases music, poetry, art and messages to Americans from the conflict zones.
