Thank you for your interest in volunteering at WPVM. WPVM is a unique station in that we are dedicated to creating the best radio station in Asheville and beyond using technology that greatly increases our reach. We have an extensive training program for our show hosts that includes instruction in audio and broadcast production, how to use social media to your advantage to create greater reach and engagement for your show. The worldwide pandemic has made the use of virtual interviews a convenient and effective method of capturing interviews safely and also opened the options to interviews to an unmeasurable limit. Similar courses for the use of technology in mass communications at a university like Full Sail is a six-month course and $10,000 in tuition. We are not claiming to be on Full Sales’ level but we are claiming to be ahead of the pack in community radio stations in teaching the latest in radio show production using new technologies such as show development, virtual interviews, live-streaming, and sharing your show to a national reach,
Radio has greatly evolved from the former analog stations that required a live-in Broadcast Engineer to nearly 100% digital. Now a quality show can be recorded in a closet and sent out to stations worldwide. This past period of the worldwide pandemic has led to even more innovation for radio. New show hosts need to certify that they are proficient with computer technology. Please sign below that you have basic computer skills. We are simply not equipped to do basic computer training and there are training courses at AB Tech and elsewhere.
