About Pacifica Media Company

“Started in 1946 by conscientious objector Lew Hill, Pacifica’s storied history includes impounded program tapes for a 1954 on-air discussion of marijuana, broadcasting the Seymour Hersh revelations of the My Lai massacre, bombings by the Ku Klux Klan, going to jail rather than turning over the Patty Hearst tapes to the FBI, and Supreme Court cases. Those cases include the 1984 decision that noncommercial broadcasters have the constitutional right to editorialize, and the Seven Dirty Words ruling following George Carlin’s incendiary performances on WBAI.”

The Pacifica Foundation operates noncommercial radio stations in five major metropolitan areas, operates the Pacifica Radio Archives with decades of historical audio, and syndicates content to over 300 affiliate stations. Pacifica invented listener-sponsored radio.

How we survive:  YOU the listener make up our single largest source of income.

The New WPVM is Asheville’s truly independent  hometown radio, which means we create all of our local programming entirely by volunteer show hosts and dj’s. By FCC law we are not allowed any commercial advertisements.  WPVM  receives no financial support other than from our underwriters, fundraisers and donations from our listeners. Our ability to stay on the air is due to financial support of our listeners and we thank you for you financial support and faith in us. In a time when the main stream media is owned by just a few conglomerates, truly independent media is a rare thing. If you enjoy our programming and our effort to bring independent  and thought provoking news and entertainment, please consider making a tax deductible financial contribution. WPVM is truly a labor of love by the Board of Directors and  our volunteers, and we hope you will help us continue this important work.

All online donations are processed through PayPal, a secure payment site. We do not share your information with any other organizations.
